Dick Smith was elected Commodore, and club membership increased to 36 by years end.

In June, 1977, two Solings from the 1976 Olympics were donated to the Central Florida Chapter, American Red Cross.  Sailing Club members (principally Tom Burgin) put the Solings back in shape.  Bill Galle began planning an Advanced Sailing Course using the Solings as instructional boats.  The Basic Sailing Course continued to be taught using smaller boats.

The Central Florida Chapter, American Red Cross continued to receive donations of Windflite, Hobie 10, Snipe, Lightning, and Scorpion sailboats.  Snipes were donated by the manufacturer in Rock River, Ohio.  Judd Wood and Tom Bergen went to Ohio and towed them back to Orlando.

So, the Basic Sailing Course was taught using this assortment of small boats at Rosemont Country Club on Lake Orlando.

Does anyone have Dick Smith's photograph?
