Sam Waddell became Commodore of The Sailing Club for 1978.

In January, The Sailing Club's Board of Directors formulated a plan to dissolve the Club.  The Board's reasons were that the social functions were not well attended and the majority of the membership was not interested in the main purpose of the the Club, which is teaching sailing.  Also membership had dropped to 28.

The Sailing Club was not dissolved, however.  It was voted to continue the Club, but with implementation of steps for improvements.

Basic Sailing courses continued to be offered, with American Red Cross sponsorship.

Bill Galle continued to lead the planning for the addition of an Advanced Sailing Course to the Club's and Central Florida Chapter American Red Cross  instructional activities.
