John Tanke became Commodore of The Sailing Club for 1980.

Club dues were increased from $10.00 to $12.00 a year.  The new dues amount remains unchanged for over twenty years!

Tom Tanner (Lieutenant, US Navy) a new member and skilled navigator, enables the club to offer navigation courses for the membership.  Basic and Advanced Sailing Courses continue to be offered, with American Red Cross sponsorship. A Venture 21 sailboat donation is received; repairs are begun so it can be used in the Advanced Sailing Course.

Another whitewater rafting trip was held in May in Georgia-North Carolina.

By years end, club membership increased to 76.  Graduating sailing students remain the prime source of new members.
