Garry Sherman was The Sailing Club Commodore for 1981.

A highlight of this year was The Sailing Club display that Club members prepared for the Centennial Mall Exhibition.  Such advertising led to increased  membership.

A summer regatta was also held on Lake Orlando, at Rosemont Country Club.

The fleet of Phantoms continued to expand through purchases made by the Central Florida Chapter, American Red Cross.  By December 1981, The Sailing Club membership was 90.
