Glover was Commodore for 2000 and 2001.
During 2000,
efforts to have the City of Orlando replace the aging fleet of
Phantom resulted in the City Council voting, on September 18, 2000,
to fund replacement of the Phantoms with the Hunter 140, a 14 foot
sailboat that will permit two students to be taught in each
boat. On December 27th, 2000, the City accepted delivery of the new
boats and they were sailed across Lake Fairview to their new home in
the City Park on the lake. Thanks to Jim and Sandy Novak,
proprietors of The Sailing Store, for their help is getting the
boats ready for delivery during the busy Christmas holidays.
The Sailing Club was sorry to see The Sailing Store close during
2001, after doing business so many years on the shore of Lake
Fairview.
These new boats
have permitted the Community Sailing
Program to expand to include week long youth sailing classes during
Spring Break and during the summer. This expansion of recreational
opportunities by the City of Orlando to its younger citizens is
in addition to the now improved existing sailing instruction
available for adults and older teens.

During 2001, the aging fleet
of Phantoms (above) was sold and replaced with Hunter 140s (below).

Orlando sailing class for youth.

Sailing
instruction using the Hunter 140s began with the March 2001
class. February 2001 was the 25th Anniversary of the Sailing Club's
founding. Thus, 2001 marks a major milestone in the Club's service
to the Central Florida community.
The
Sailing Club's prime volunteer activity - teaching safe sailing -
has brought thousands into the sport in the 25 years since Judd Wood
established The Sailing Club in February 1976.
