The Funsails
(9-18-2008)

The Funsails were started in the early 2000's for a couple of purposes. First, the Basic Sailing course taught the proper methods of sailbaot handling and second, there was no easy way to  build on the learning experience within the Club. The Funsails were an answer to gaining big-boat experience without having to donate an arm and a leg to go on a week-long trip to the Caribbean. (Actually, that is also a very good way but 3-4 times more expensive). We usually have 2 Funsails per year in April and October, They fill up rapidly!

The Funsails usually start from St. Pete on the west side of Tampa Bay. We've had and many as 4 boats (up to 46'long) and as few as one 35' boat. The Funsails offer something for everyone aboard,

Examples, (by no means all-inclusive)
  1. Fun for every one!
  2. Opportunities to rig and handle a big keelboat.
  3. Learn the boat systems; engine, heads, sail handling incl. reefing.
  4. Navigation skills.
  5. Anchoring and docking techiniques.
  6. Living in close quarters with other folks.
  7. Dinghy operation.
